Viable Cell Density - Fogale evo 200

New evo system is next generation biomass transmitter, incorporating both VCD monitoring and OD monitoring, along with multivariate data analysis and intelligent signal processing.

Viable Cell Density (VCD) systems monitor the volume of live cells in the fermentors and bioreactors.
The principle is permittivity, where an advanced system is capable of detecting the response of cells with intact cell membrane.
Cell fragments, particles and bubbles are not measured.

VCD can be measured on all cell types:
- Mammalian cells like CHO, HEK-293, HeLa, SF-9
- Stem cells
- Yeast like Pichia pastoris and stipitis, Saccharomyces cerevisiae
- Fungi both filamentous and as pellets, like Aspergillus niger
- Bacteria like Lactococcus lactis, E. coli and many more

Optical Density (OD) sensors use light to measure cell density. All cells are measured to give a total OD value.

If you combine VCD and OD in the same fermentor or bioreactor, a lot of interesting information is available.

New evo 200 transmitter can connect to 2 probes, free selectable VCD or OD-probes.
Either monitor 2 cultivations or use both probes in the same cultivation for optimal information and control.

- Viable Cell Density
- Conductivity
- Fc, indicating average cell size
- Alpha, indicating cell size distribution
- DeltaEpsilon, multifrequency cell density
